Edthena Does It Again

Video-based classroom observation platform wins industry-leading education awards

SAN FRANCISCO (December 1, 2016) – Edthena recently won two industry-leading education awards for its innovative video-based classroom observation platform for teacher development. It was chosen by K-12 district leaders as a 2016 District Administration “Readers’ Choice Top 100 Products” and named a winner of Tech & Learning’s 2016 Awards of Excellence.

“Video is a powerful tool that helps educators at all levels – from pre-service to veteran teachers – engage in meaningful, reflective professional learning,” said Adam Geller, founder and CEO of Edthena. “Winning these top awards reinforces the impact of our technology on the professional development process and in helping educators succeed.”

Schools, districts, and teacher education programs in more than 30 states are using the Edthena platform. It helps these organizations make video observation an integral part of teacher induction, teacher mentoring, professional learning communities (PLCs), and peer observation.

District Administration’s Readers’ Choice Top 100 Products awards program informs K-12 superintendents and other senior school district leaders about products their colleagues around the country are using to help their districts excel in a variety of areas, including technology, sustainability, and curriculum instruction. Winners were chosen based on 1,500-plus nominations from the magazine’s readers over the past year. Edthena was also chosen as a winner in 2015.

Tech & Learning’s Awards of Excellence, now in its 34th year, is a leading educational awards program that recognizes innovative products that break new ground, as well as those that have received significant enhancements. The winners, including Edthena, were chosen by a panel of Tech & Learning advisors who tested hundreds of entries.

With the Edthena platform, teachers quickly and easily upload videos of their classroom instruction from any video camera and then share those videos with coaches and colleagues who provide timestamped comments categorized as questions, suggestions, strengths, and notes. The platform enables teachers and coaches to participate in collaborative professional learning cycles. Reports and graphs, linked to the school’s or district’s associated professional standards, help identify teaching trends, determine if the professional development is improving teaching practices, and provide a basis for ongoing dialogue about instructional best practices.

In addition to the Readers’ Choice Top 100 Products and Tech & Learning Award of Excellence, this year Edthena won an SIIA CODiE Award in the Best Professional Learning Solution for K-20 Faculty and Administrative Staff category and an EdTech Digest Cool Tool Award in the Professional Development Learning Solution category. Geller was also a contributor to SETDA’s recently-released “The Broadband Imperative II: Equitable Access for Learning” report.
