PublicSchoolWORKS’ Steroid and Performance-Enhancing Substances Online Training Course Approved by Oregon DOE

Employees can take the online course to meet the state’s Training and Assessment requirement

Cincinnati, OH (November 30, 2015) — PublicSchoolWORKS’ “Steroids and Supplements: Use, Abuse and Prevention Strategies” online training course is now officially approved by the Oregon Department of Education as meeting the Oregon School Activities Association’s (OSSA) Steroids Training and Assessment requirement and is now listed as an approved course on the Oregon Department of Education website. In an attempt to reduce the use and abuse of anabolic steroids and performance enhancing substances (ASPES) among school-age children, OSSA requires all district employees who are coaches or athletic directors to be trained on identifying the signs of ASPES use and abuse, as well as understanding evidence-based prevention strategies. The Oregon State Legislature Senate Bill 517 requires all applicable employees complete this training once every four years.

New York State Education Department Approves Curriculum Associates’ i-Ready® Diagnostic for Reading and Math

Online assessment for grades K–12 to help New York State school districts and BOCES define student growth for teacher and principal evaluations

NORTH BILLERICA, Mass., November 17, 2015—The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has recently selected Curriculum Associates’ i-Ready Diagnostic for reading and math as an approved Assessment for Use with Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) and as an approved Supplemental Assessment with Corresponding Growth Models for grades K–12. As a result of this approval, districts and BOCES throughout New York can use the program as part of teachers’ and principals’ annual performance appraisals per the state’s teacher evaluation requirements.
